This month, I was proud to attend the “Hands Off!” protests here in Wake County. From families, to young people, and retirees — I witnessed thousands of people come together out of a deep concern for their families, their livelihoods, and the future of our nation. And, there are more to come.

People weren’t just protesting — they were standing up. Standing up for their families. Standing up for their futures. Standing up for a government that works for the people.

There was anger, yes — but more than that, there was determination. Everyone who protested across the country knows exactly what we're up against, and not a single person protesting is willing to sit this fight out because we all know what’s at stake.

Donald Trump ran on lowering prices and boosting the American economy. But he's done the complete opposite since he took office. Prices are skyrocketing thanks to his reckless tariff war on the entire world, squeezing working families day by day.

He promised to root out corruption, but instead, he is governing like an authoritarian with the help of billionaire buddies like Elon Musk. This administration routinely ignores laws, undermines our institutions, and acts like they are above the Constitution.

And all while this has unfolded over the last 3 months, Republicans in Congress have stood by and let this happen. They've refused to hold him accountable, and they’ve enabled his worst abuses of power. That’s how we got here — and that’s why the threat to our democracy feels more real than ever.

The 2026 elections are our opportunity to turn this around and finally put a check on Trump’s runaway power. But we can’t wait for Republicans to grow a conscience.

We have to out-organize, outwork, and outvote them. Together, we can elect leaders who will fight back and protect our freedoms, restore accountability, and rebuild an America that works for everyone — not just the rich and powerful.
