** Webinar: Developing Systems for Tracking Trends in ICE Encounters
------------------------------------------------------------
** May 6, 2025 3-4pm ET
------------------------------------------------------------
For over a decade, the Immigrant Defense Project (IDP) has tracked trends in ICE raids in the New York area. Today, information about how the federal government is policing immigrants is more important than ever. This webinar will provide insight into IDP’s successful model of collective, coordinated tracking which relies on information gathered after an ICE encounter ends to bolster systemic change advocacy. It will address the impact of changing security risks as we do this tracking work under the current administration.
Documenting ICE policing tactics has informed IDP’s Know Your Rights materials ([link removed]) and training for KYR Workshop leads ([link removed]) , legal technical assistance ([link removed]) for community members and attorneys, and helped expose the community harm of ICE raids ([link removed]) . In 2018, IDP exposed a dramatic increase in ICE arrests at state courthouses ([link removed]) , leading New York State to pass the Protect Our Courts Act ([link removed]) which prohibits ICE arrests of people going to, coming from, or attending proceedings at New York State courts. Until 2022, IDP maintained a map of validated ICE raids ([link removed]) that served as a key source of information for the press, elected officials, and the public. This work was made possible by
the collaboration and support of community organizers and legal service providers who also saw its value.
Join us for a webinar to learn more about the process of documenting and identifying trends that can inform broad systemic change advocacy today. This webinar will be recorded and available to individuals who register and affirm they meet the registration requirements.
