Big Oil wants us to believe that if this law passes, they'll retaliate with higher prices. That's a lie designed to scare us away.

California has robust oil accountability laws that protect us from price gouging at the pump. And Big Oil makes more than enough extra profit to pay for climate projects that address the harm they've done to communities.

After paying for labor, operational costs, and taxes, ExxonMobil made $62,614 in excess profits every single minute last year. It takes the average Californian an entire year to bring home $69,048 after taxes.

What could some of Big Oil's extra money do? It could fund grid resilience, disaster planning, green infrastructure, sustainable agriculture, drought resilience, forest health, wildfire prevention, extreme heat relief, affordable housing projects, and so much more. 

What is Big Oil doing with it? Making their rich CEOs richer—like ExxonMobil's CEO Darren Woods, who got a $4.5 million bonus last year on top of his $1.96 million salary and $26.8 million stock awards.

It's common sense: corporate polluters directly caused the climate crisis and lied about it for years. Now it's their turn to pay us back by funding climate recovery, resilience, mitigation, and affordability.
