(ZANESVILLE, Ohio)—Ohio Lt. Governor Jim Tressel visited a longtime Zanesville engineering and manufacturing company today as part of his ongoing work to evaluate the workforce strengths and needs of regions across the state.
The Lt. Governor stopped by Stewart Glapat Corporation, a fourth-generation family-owned business, for a tour and a roundtable discussion with various business, education, and community leaders from across Muskingum County.
Today’s roundtable marked the latest community conversation hosted by Lt. Governor Tressel to help inform the development of Ohio’s Workforce Playbook.
“Under the leadership of Governor DeWine, we are opening up the door to so many amazing opportunities right now – not only for our workforce, but also for our businesses," Lt. Governor Tressel said. “In recent weeks, I’ve been our touring schools across the state. We are blessed with so many incredible training programs in our high schools and colleges, complete with the latest and greatest equipment for students to learn on. As a result, our students are mastering these skills and graduating ready to launch their career in one of the many in-demand fields available in Ohio.”

“What we need next is to ensure that our education community and our business community are communicating with one another and providing career pathways for our students though opportunities like internships, co-ops, and so on, so we can retain our top talent here in Ohio,” Lt. Governor Tressel continued. “That’s how we get our best people contributing to homegrown companies like Stewart Glapat. That’s why community conversations like today’s roundtable are so important.”
Under the leadership of Governor Mike DeWine, the state has attracted a variety of economic development projects in recent years, which are bringing tens of thousands of new jobs to Ohio. To ensure the state’s workforce is trained and ready to fill these jobs, Governor DeWine announced in his recent State of the State Address [ [link removed] ] that Lt. Governor Tressel would lead the administration’s effort to create Ohio’s Workforce Playbook.
By examining the needs and circumstances of Ohio’s various regions, Ohio’s Workforce Playbook will develop a plan to retain existing talent, recruit new talent to Ohio, and rally Ohio’s existing workforce to greater productivity.
