NC Republicans have spent the last 14 years making it easier for anyone and everyone to buy and carry weapons almost everywhere in public - including parks and greenways, bars and restaurants, even houses of worship. In 2023, they eliminated the Pistol Purchase Permit system, allowing anyone 18 and older to buy handguns from private sellers without a background check or permit.
And now, the weapons and the violence that they have fueled for years has started to spill into our schools - even our elementary schools and buses. In rural and urban areas. Twice last week.3,4 This is the reality that NC Republicans have spent the last 14 years creating for my children, and yours.
Trust us, they say. We can solve this problem with more guns in your kid’s school.
But our teachers, our parents, all of us know better. We see the dangers - as retired school teacher and volunteer Sue Duncan makes clear in her excellent letter to the editor about HB 193 in the State Port Pilot.
Join me & Sue in saying NO: We reject adding any guns into any North Carolina schools under any circumstances, to anyone who is not law enforcement.
Come join us. We will organize and fight back, to protect our kids.
Yours in this fight,
Sara
