Washington, DC -Today, Congressman Van Drew released the following statement regarding the Jones Road Wildfire in South Jersey.
"The Jones Road Wildfire has now burned over 15,000 acres, and we know that it has caused significant damage, including the destruction of a commercial building," said Congressman Van Drew. "While the cause is still under investigation, it is believed to have been sparked by an improperly extinguished bonfire, and authorities have made an arrest in connection with the fire. This is a reminder for all of us to be extremely careful when dealing with fire, especially in these dry, windy conditions. I have been in close contact with local officials and emergency teams to make sure our community is receiving the help and resources it needs, and we are committed to supporting their recovery efforts. I want to thank the brave firefighters, first responders, and volunteers who are working around the clock to contain the fire and protect our neighborhoods. I also want to thank everyone who has donated water, snacks, and other supplies to support our emergency personnel. It has been incredible to see how our community has come together to support each other.
"As the situation continues to develop, please stay informed, follow all safety guidance, and know that my office is here to assist in any way we can. Do not hesitate to reach out if you need help."
