A few weeks ago we talked to you about how the legislative session went for us and shared our wins- HB 212 and HB 420! Truth be told, we’re still giddy from an overall successful legislative session, and one of the most impactful sessions for sustainability.
House Bill 212 is an energy bill that opens the door to create a more diverse energy grid, allowing more opportunities for different energy sources to be utilized. Our team member, Samantha Pensari, worked closely with Representative Christine Watkins to get this bill across the finish line and we are thrilled to celebrate this win!
House Bill 420 addresses bromine and chlorine pollution, which can worsen inversions by up to 25%. The Utah Division of Air Quality inventoried halogen emissions and developed a reduction plan and state standard for these pollutants – 97% of which come from US Magnesium. HB 420 implements recommended controls from the Utah Division of Air Quality and forces US Magnesium to reduce its chlorine and bromine emissions by 75%!
