President's Message According to the CDC, as of April 17, 2025, a total of 800 confirmed measles cases were reported by 25 jurisdictions. Recently, I was interviewed for an article in Education Week that focused on measles, vaccinations, exemptions, and access to vaccines. School nurses understand that measles is highly contagious and highly preventable with vaccination, and ensuring people are immunized remains the best defense. We use evidence-based immunization strategies and are strongly positioned to educate about the critical role vaccines play. CDC recommendations include ensuring that all healthcare personnel, including school nurses, have presumptive evidence of immunity to measles. If you have questions regarding your vaccination or immunity status, please talk to your healthcare provider. In the timely second episode of our new podcast Beyond Bandaids, host Terri Hinkley, EdD, MBA, BScN, RN, CAE, NASN CEO, is joined by Dr. Todd Wolynn, Dr. Kendra McDow, and Shannon Smith to discuss the resurgence of measles in the U.S. and how school nurses and public health leaders are responding.
