Donald Trump has unleashed a full-blown authoritarian assault on our democracy, and federal judges have been among the few real constraints on his power.

Now Republicans in Congress are trying to remove even that check on Trump’s unconstitutional rampage.

Earlier this month, the House Republicans passed legislation called the No Rogue Rulings Act, which would bar federal district judges from issuing nationwide injunctions to block Trump’s most flagrantly illegal executive actions.

This sweeping attack on the judiciary now heads to the Senate — and we need to sound the alarm to stop it.

When Donald Trump tried to delete birthright citizenship from the U.S. Constitution, a federal district judge stopped him.

When he illegally tried to ban transgender troops from serving in the military, a federal district judge stopped him.

And it was federal district judges who stepped in when Trump began shipping migrants — including Kilmar Abrego Garcia — to a notorious gulag in El Salvador with zero due process.

If this bill becomes law, these guardrails will be gone.

This legislation, like so much of what Trump is doing right now, comes straight out of the same authoritarian playbook used by dictators like Vladimir Putin and Viktor Orbán.

Attack the free press to silence criticism. Crush universities as centers of free speech. Intimidate lawmakers who dare to resist with threats of violence. And cripple the courts as a meaningful check on power.
