Gavin Newsom’s favoritism for criminal illegal immigrants over law-abiding citizens just hit a new low.

Newsom is releasing Oscar Eduardo Ortega-Anguiano, a twice-deported illegal immigrant who killed two teens while driving drunk and high. He’s walking free after serving just 3.5 years of a 10-year sentence.

And it gets worse: because of California’s sanctuary laws, there’s no guarantee he’ll be turned over to ICE. He could end up back in our communities (again), putting more lives at risk.

What message does this send? That in Newsom’s California, innocent lives are expendable, and criminal illegal immigrants come first.

This isn’t justice. It’s insanity.

Newsom is now scrambling to defend the release — but let’s be clear: these are his policies. His responsibility. He owns this. And I called him out directly on X to remind him of that.

I introduced SB 554 to require cooperation with federal immigration officials in cases involving convicted, violent illegal immigrants like Ortega-Anguiano. The bill gets its first hearing next Tuesday, and I’ll be fighting to put safety before sanctuary.

Meanwhile, we notched a major win for nearly 500,000 Californians this week.

Our SB 525 to close the insurance gap for mobile homeowners passed the Senate Insurance Committee. It requires the FAIR Plan to provide full replacement value coverage, fixing the outdated and underinsured system that leaves mobile homeowners vulnerable, especially in fire-prone areas.

The road to fixing California isn’t easy. But slowly, we are forcing the tough conversations, exposing the dangerous failures, and building momentum one battle at a time.
