John, One thing is abundantly clear: now, more than ever, saving our democracy is up to us. The most important office in this democracy is the citizen, the ordinary person who says, no, that’s not right. Too often, people underestimate the power of people. Those of us who care deeply about the future of our country need to fight for what we believe in. When one side tries to stack the deck and lock in a permanent grip on power — whether by actively suppressing votes, engaging in brazen gerrymandering, politicizing the armed forces, or using the criminal justice system to go after their opponents — we need to speak out, organize, and mobilize. The question we face today is not simply whose policies and agendas will prevail, but whether the concept of democracy itself will endure. So this is not a time for acceptance and resignation — this is a time for commitment and action. I've been proud to support the NDR PAC since my friend Attorney General Eric Holder and I helped bring it to life in 2017. Its work to undo partisan gerrymandering has helped produce the fairest maps in a generation. And it’s one of the reasons why Democrats cut the Republican margin in the House from a 47-seat margin when President Trump first took office in 2017 to a historically low five seats after the 2024 election.
At this troubling moment, the NDR PAC’s work is more urgent and vital than at any time in its eight-year history. In 2025, there are critical state supreme court elections in Pennsylvania, a gubernatorial race and state legislative elections in Virginia, and a very important special election in Michigan. The NDR PAC’s focus on the state level — electing pro-democracy legislators, state supreme court justices, and other officials like secretaries of state who have a significant impact on voting rights and redistricting — is exactly where you and I can make the greatest difference to ensure that the will of the people prevails. The NDR PAC is rising to meet the moment with a comprehensive strategy to fight partisan and racial gerrymandering in state legislatures and elect people who will fight to make maps fairer. They’re pushing back against voter suppression efforts across the country. And they’re working to organize and mobilize voters on the ground leading up to important elections this year and next. Because when we have fair maps, we win. With your continued support, the NDR PAC will be able to turn out more voters and fight back more fiercely against Republican anti-democracy agendas across the country in 2025 and 2026. At this moment in our history — when core democratic principles seem to be continuously under attack, and when too many people around the world have become cynical and disengaged — we need to be vigilant and take action to protect democracy. That’s why I’m personally asking: Will you join me in supporting the NDR PAC’s work by making a donation right now? Sincerely, Barack Obama
