Governor Hochul is delaying key funding decisions for public education, and we need your help to make sure our schools and their communities get the support they need.
Email your representatives now, calling on them to prioritize public education in their final budget.
First off, the Foundation Aid formula must be updated to make sure that every student, especially those in high-need districts, gets the resources they need to thrive. We’re calling for additional support for our schools to address the needs of students experiencing housing instability and English language needs, as well as a fairer use of the regional cost index to ensure funding is distributed more equitably based on the cost of living in different parts of the state.
At the same time, New York’s tax system needs an overhaul. Billionaires, multi-millionaires, and highly profitable corporations aren’t paying their fair share, leaving working class New Yorkers to bear the burden. If we make sure the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share, we can expect deeper investments in our public schools, affordable housing, health care, public transportation, and so much more.
Take action now. Email your state legislators to demand they protect and equitably distribute funding for public schools and support fairer tax policies that benefit all New Yorkers.
