Today, we are thrilled to announce our first candidate of 2025: Joshua Cole, incumbent for the Virginia House of Delegates in District 65! Democrats hold the majority by a single seat—and this seat is critical to maintaining our power in the VA HOD.

MEET JOSHUA COLE

Delegate Cole is a proud Sister District alumnus running for reelection to the Virginia House of Delegates in District 65. In 2019, Joshua became the youngest person elected from the Fredericksburg region to the General Assembly, and the first Black representative from the area. After a narrow loss in 2021, he came back stronger and was reelected with our help in 2023, proving his unwavering commitment to his community and the future of his district.

Raised in his own district, Joshua understands not only the challenges people face in Fredericksburg, Stafford County, and Spotsylvania County, but also what it means to truly serve his constituents. He has taken on big issues, voting in support of the ERA, protecting workers’ rights, defending reproductive freedom, and standing up to big polluters to protect our environment.

Outside of politics, Joshua is a pastor, a husband, a father, and an avid Star Wars and Marvel fan.

WHY THIS RACE IS IMPORTANT

In 2023, Democrats flipped the Virginia House of Delegates—and holding on to Virginia’s 65th House District is critical to maintaining that majority. Defending our hard-won majority ensures that Virginia remains both a firewall against right-wing extremism and a leader in expanding opportunity, protecting freedoms, and strengthening democracy.

Joshua Cole has been a steadfast advocate for fully funding public education, expanding access to health care, and protecting reproductive rights—all of which are on the line in this election.

Building on our victories in the 2025 Virginia special elections, this election is our chance to solidify Virginia as a stronghold for democracy, protect fundamental rights, and keep the Commonwealth moving forward. It also gives us the opportunity to build lasting momentum heading into the 2026 midterms.
