Hey John —

I recently attended a town hall meeting, and a man in the audience asked me the following question. Based on the audience's response to the question, I know he wasn’t the only one thinking this:

“You know, we go to protests and we come to these events. It just doesn’t seem like enough. You’re pissed, I’m pissed, we’re all pissed. We come here and talk, but there doesn’t seem to be anything really meaningful that we can do.”

Here’s what I said in response, and I hope you’ll pay attention, John — because I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve thought about this too.

"Do not let them in any way make you believe that you showing up to forums like this, to protests, that it doesn’t matter.

I’m telling you right now. I have seen movements come. When we fought against the health care cuts when the GOP wanted to tear down the Affordable Care Act, affecting 20 million people, it was a slow-growing movement. The actual approval rating of the Affordable Care Act was underwater. But by the time John McCain took that vote, the people spoke up — Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. And they had moved it to be so popular and so demanded for by the people that politicians HAD to respond.

No person standing up for a cause of justice is ever doing anything in vain. It makes more of a difference than you realize. ”

Remember that, John.

Your voice makes more of a difference than you realize.

Attending rallies and protests. Voting in local elections. Sending letters to your elected leaders. Writing to your newspaper. Knocking on doors. Donating.

It makes more of a difference than you realize.

A movement isn’t built overnight. It takes time, resources, and continued energy.

It makes more of a difference than you realize.

Republicans will succeed if they silence us and take away our momentum. We can’t let them.

Help me share this message across the country. I’m traveling to town halls in communities across the country, and your support helps me reach more voters with this valuable message. [[link removed]]
