Dear Neighbor,

I hope you are well. I want to start this week by offering my condolences to all who are mourning Pope Francis. For over a decade, he led his Church with compassion and understanding in times when all of humanity needed it the most. May his influence continue to be felt and may he rest in peace.

My Senior Fair is next week on Thursday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call my office at 484-200-8263 to RSVP or click the link below. This week, I have an update on my visit to the home of the first Speaker of the United States House of Representatives with Speaker McClinton, important dates for the 2025 Primary Election, upcoming REAL ID Days at local PennDOT driver license centers, and more local events happening this week!

As always, I hope you find the information below informative and useful.

Earth Day 2025

Yesterday was Earth Day, but the effort to take care of our Earth isn’t just limited to one day, it needs to be an everyday mission. The message of Earth Day is important, and it’s up to us, and only us, to protect our planet and prioritize the health and well-being of our environment each chance we get.

How can we do this? Well, it could be switching to reuseable bags or volunteering at a community cleanup, and for legislators, it’s passing bills that protect our waterways from hazardous materials and adopting standards for energy efficiency. Find a way you can help our planet; even a small act can make a big difference.

Drug Take Back Day

On Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and Police Chiefs Association are partnering for Drug Take Back Day at 37 locations across Montgomery County. This program is designed to provide residents with safe locations to dispose unwanted and expired medications to help prevent overdoses and accidents.

491 E. Main St., Collegeville, PA

Lower Providence Township Police Department

100 Parklane Dr., Eagleville, PA

Upper Providence Township Police Department

Speaker’s House Tour

I was pleased to welcome Speaker McClinton to Trappe Borough Monday afternoon to tour the home of the first Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Frederick Muhlenberg.

Thanks to the efforts of the Historic Trappe Historical Society, the site is currently undergoing restoration and will serve as a place for guided tours and an educational resource for local students once restored. The Speaker’s House is a unique part of our history in Montgomery County, and it will be one of the many local sites highlighted by the America 250 initiative, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.

License Plate Event at the Senior Fair

Do you have a license plate that's deteriorating? Illegible plates can be subject to a fine of $100. We can help replace yours! My office will be offering FREE License Plate Restoration at my upcoming Senior Fair. The event will be held in the parking lot of Hall D from 11am to 12pm

NOTE: This requires registration to participate, and it is a separate registration from the Senior Fair signup. Please call my office at 484-200-8263 and a member of my staff will help you sign up. RSVP’s close on April 25.

Scam Jam Recap

It's always great when we’re able to host a Scam Jam in our community, and I’m glad to see everyone who could make it last Thursday. Not only is it informative, it's also incredibly valuable having experts who can answer questions in person and teach our neighbors how to spot and avoid scams, especially those that are local. And playing fraud bingo is always exciting!

Thank you to the PA Dept. of Banking and Securities, Upper Providence Police Department and Township, Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, PA Attorney General's Office, and AARP PA for presenting and making this event possible.

Real ID Days

As we approach the May 7 enforcement deadline to obtain a REAL ID, PennDOT is offering dedicated days at driver license centers to help YOU get a REAL ID. Both the Norristown and King of Prussia driver license centers will hold REAL ID days on April 28 and May 5.

Beginning May 7, Pennsylvanians will need a REAL ID, or a valid passport or military ID, to board a domestic flight or enter a federal building. Following the enforcement deadline, you will still be able to acquire a REAL ID.

Note that REAL ID Days at driver license centers are for REAL ID services only. To find more information, please visit: https://www.pa.gov/agencies/dmv/driver-services/real-id/real-id-days.html

Finance Committee Bills Hearing

Yesterday in the House Finance Committee, we held a hearing for two of my bills, House Bill 852 and House Bill 853. H.B. 852, titled Modernizing the Local Tax Enabling Act to Address Delinquent Tax Collection, would permit a tax collector to recover costs of collection from delinquent taxpayer-businesses that owe business privilege/mercantile taxes or admission/amusement taxes.

H.B. 853, titled Consistency in Local & County Tax Collections, permits counties that levy per capita and occupation taxes to collect their costs of collection directly from the delinquent taxpayer in the same manner as municipalities. These actions are currently not permitted under the Local Tax Collection Law.
