Shapiro Family Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) National President Morton A. Klein, ZOA Chair Rubin Margules and the ZOA National Board and staff released the following statement: The ZOA is horrified by and condemns the heinous antisemitic firebombing attack on Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and his family and their home – the historic Pennsylvania Governor’s mansion – on the first night of Passover. We are relieved and deeply grateful that Governor Shapiro, Pennsylvania First Lady Lori Shapiro, and their children Sophia, Jonah, Max, and Reuben are safe. ZOA sends all of them our love, hugs and wishes for strength as they deal with the aftermath of this traumatic attack. We are also grateful to the brave first responders – the firefighters and the State and Capitol police – who swiftly evacuated the Shapiro family, physically unscathed. The attack on the Shapiro family is a sad reminder that antisemitism is an “equal-opportunity” hatred. It doesn’t matter if you are a Democrat or Republican, a socialist or a conservative; we are all in the cross-hairs of the Jew-haters. Just like it didn’t matter whether the Jews in southern Israel were on the left, on the right, were doting souls who regularly used their cars to bring ill Gazans to Israeli hospitals for medical treatment, or babies too young to utter their first words, when thousands of Hamas, Palestinian Authority, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Gazan “civilian” terrorists burned, tortured and slaughtered 1,200 innocent Jews and wounded 5,000 innocent Jews on October 7th. The attack on the Shapiro family is also a sad reminder that antisemitism is a defamation-fueled hatred. The alleged perpetrator of the attack on the Governor’s family stated that he wanted to let Governor Shapiro know that the Governor “will not take part in his plans for what he wants to do to the Palestinian people.” This is why ZOA fights so hard to correct the inversion of truth that portrays Jews as “occupiers” of our own lawful, historic and G-d given lands. This is why ZOA works so hard to correct the lies that Israel is perpetrating “genocide” when, in fact, Israel’s brave, moral army bends over backwards to prevent Palestinian civilian casualties, and Israel and Jews are the victims of genocidal Palestinian Arab terrorists. We must all come together to combat Jew-hatred, and to combat the vicious lies about our people and Israel that fuel the attacks on our Jewish families.
