New Acting Director Daniel Driscoll

ATF welcomes Daniel Driscoll as its new Acting Director [ [link removed] ], following his appointment by President Donald Trump. He is responsible for the oversight of our mission to protect communities from violent criminals, criminal organizations and the illegal trafficking of firearms, explosives and contraband. Under his leadership, the ATF works to enforce federal laws, ensure public safety and provide critical support in the investigation of firearms-related crimes and domestic and international criminal enterprises.

New Resource for Regulated Industries and Industry Associations

ATF is proud to announce that we have a Senior Industry Partnership Advisor available to offer assistance.

This new position:



* Is ATF’s point-of-contact for the regulated industries, associations and their representatives.
* Supports and enhances ATF’s relationships with these groups by providing technical expertise.
* Helps develop and maintain effective, sustainable relationships with the regulated industries.
* Helps to clarify obscure issues and provides expert advisory and counseling services on regulatory matters by responding directly to letters, internet inquiries, phone calls and emails.

ATF Releases Facts and Figures for Fiscal Year 2024

A fact sheet with data for fiscal year 2024 [ [link removed] ]
is now available. It covers such topics as the
following:



* Personnel numbers and agency budget.
* Case and defendant data in the various phases of the judicial process.
* Number of federal firearms licensees and licenses issued.
* Number of firearm compliance inspections and most frequently cited violations.
* Number of federal explosives licenses and permits issued.
* Number of explosives application inspections and most frequently cited violations.
* Number of firearm tracing requests processed. 
* Ballistic imaging data that links violent crimes involving firearms and subsequently identifies firearm users.
* ATF laboratory accomplishments.

ATF Offers K-9 Training to Law Enforcement, Military Partners

SACH Nic Garlie and K-9 Taylor participate in the 2019 ATF National Odor Recognition Test

Each year, ATF hosts a series of national canine certifications known as the National Odor Recognition Test [ [link removed] ] (NORT), in which police and military canine teams train on tactical activities. The three-day test covers teamwork skills and odor detection, including explosive compounds, ignitable liquids and gun powder-related residue. 

ATF hosts 12 NORT certifications across the country each year to about 500 explosives detection canine teams. For more information about the NORT certification closest to you, contact your local ATF field office [ [link removed] ].

ATF’s Body Worn Camera Program

ATF vest with body worn camera

ATF’s Body Worn Camera Program [ [link removed] ] promotes transparency, accountability and clarity to enhance public trust within the agency. Body worn cameras have been issued in phases to ATF special agents throughout the country. To date, special agents in 14 of ATF’s 25 field divisions have been issued body worn cameras. An additional field division is currently being phased into the program.
