The right words in tough times
Not a week, and sometimes not a day, goes by without someone writing to me hoping that The Christian Century will have “just the right thing to say” to help navigate these “tough times.” That exact wording or something very close to it is what’s in every such email. Typically paired with the writer’s hope is an expression of how much they value and depend on the Century.
I never know exactly what is meant by the these “tough times.” Could it be marital issues for the person? Spiritual discouragement? Economic pressures? Chaos out of Washington? I generally have a strong sense of where their anguish lies, but I never want to presume.
What I do know is that the Century doesn’t duck any of these topics. We take them head on. So, regardless of where a reader’s hope or anxiety may rest, The Christian Century will speak to them over time in one way or another.
