# [#]John,
Coming from a family of loggers, I learned early on that being a good steward of the Earth isn’t just a slogan – it’s a way of life.
Here in Southwest Washington, our forests, rivers, and lands aren’t just beautiful – they’re the backbone of our economy, communities, and future. From logging to recreation to small farms, protecting these natural resources is part of who we are.
That’s why, this Earth Day, I’m proud to reaffirm my commitment to responsible stewardship and common-sense conservation.
This year, I’ve been working hard to protect the places we love: * I introduced the Community Wood Facilities Assistance Act to strengthen markets for sustainably harvested wood and create good-paying jobs here in Southwest Washington.
* I led the charge to extend the National Landslide Preparedness Act , helping our communities in landslide-prone areas stay safe and resilient.
* And I fought back against federal workforce cuts that would have hurt wildfire readiness, timber production, and recreation on our public lands.
Earth Day is a time to come together and honor the land that sustains us here in Southwest Washington. Whether it’s our forests, rivers, or coastlines, being good stewards means showing up and protecting these places – for our kids, for our economy, and for future generations.
We still have work to do. Climate change, forest health, clean water access – these are real challenges facing our region. But together, we can meet them with the same grit, determination, and care that defines Southwest Washington.
Thank you for standing with me in this work, today and every day.
Happy Earth Day,
Marie
