John,

Protecting the Earth for my kids and yours has been one of my top
priorities all the way back to the early days of my career.

After law school, a clerkship, and a brief stint in private practice, I
went to work for the United States Attorney’s Office as an Assistant U.S.
Attorney. During my time there, I fought to hold polluters and toxic waste
dumpers accountable for violating environmental laws. My work there even
led to the creation of the first federal environmental crimes unit in Los
Angeles.

My work to protect our planet continued as a member of the California
State Senate and later as a member of the U.S. House. I led the way in
expanding light rail in Southern California, helped establish California’s
earthquake early warning system, and championed legislation to preserve
and protect California’s natural beauty and public lands.

And now, I’m serving on the Environment and Public Works Committee as a
United States Senator, where I continue to advocate in the strongest terms
for bold action to tackle climate change and grow our economy.

But the current administration is downright hostile to any attempts to
protect our environment.

Donald Trump is not only refusing to address the climate crisis, but he’s
actively making it worse every day. He’s making it as easy as possible for
polluters, fossil fuel companies, and toxic waste dumpers to make our air
dirtier and water less clean.

The science is clear — we need to take strong action to mitigate the worst
impacts of climate change and protect our planet, public lands, and the
environment.

That’s why I’ve supported the Green New Deal and worked to build a green
economy that will create millions of new jobs, lower energy prices for
working families, make American energy independent, and dramatically
expand clean energy technologies.

Frankly, we don’t have any other choice. The Earth is warming to
potentially catastrophic levels, and the United States must be a global
leader in the fight to reduce emissions and transition to a green economy.
