John, it’s Tyler, Executive Director of the Iowa Senate Dems. 

Republican State Senator Mike Bousselot just announced that he’s exploring running for Governor of Iowa. (Yes, that’s the same guy who introduced a bill to buy 9 Minnesota counties this year…)

Put aside for now the fact that Mike Bousselot would be a horrible governor for Iowa, and consider instead what this does for Democrats in the Senate.

Sen. Bousselot’s district will be one of the most competitive seats in 2026 here in Iowa. He won that seat last time by just a few hundred votes!

And now, with him potentially off that ballot, we will be well positioned to flip that seat and send another Democrat to the Senate, moving us out of the superminority in the Senate – and giving us the ability to block gubernatorial appointments.

We know how to win these tough fights. Last year, with your help, we sent Brad Zaun packing, and this year we made national headlines by helping Mike Zimmer flip a Trump + 21 Seat.

Now, we can replace another MAGA Senator with a Democrat who will fight for expanding economic opportunities, fully funding our public schools, and ensuring every Iowan has access to affordable health care.
