Report: TV network coverage NINE times more negative on President Trump than Joe Biden -- even worse than the 2016 election! "The Media Research Center tallied 474 evaluative comments about President Trump during this period, the vast majority of which (445, or 94%) were negative. (Read about our methodology at the end of this article.) The tone of Trump’s coverage became more hostile over the course of these three months (during which network news was consumed by the coronavirus pandemic): 87 percent negative in March; 92 percent negative in April; and a (so far) record-breaking 99.5 percent negative in May." (Media Research Center) The Media Research Center analyzed ABC, CBS, and NBC evening broadcast coverage of President Trump and Joe Biden from March 4 to May 31.
The results they reported:
Former DNC Chair and top supporter: Joe Biden doesn't need to be on the campaign trail. He is "fine in the basement." "The former Virginia governor and campaign chairman for Hillary Clinton in 2016 can be seen and heard making the remarks to a group of Virginia Democrats in a video obtained by Fox News. 'People say all the time, 'Oh, we got to get the vice president out of the basement,' McAuliffe told the Norfolk City Democratic Committee on a June 6 Zoom meeting. 'He's fine in the basement. Two people see him a day: his two body people. That's it. Let Trump keep doing what Trump's doing.'" (The Blaze) Last month, two key Obama campaign strategists wrote a New York Times op-ed about Joe Biden "mired in the basement" -- and the image seems to have stuck.
Now Terry McAuliffe, former Democratic National Committee chair, former Clinton campaign chair, and former Virginia governor, seems fine keeping Biden there. In a video call with a local Democratic committee, McAuliffe said, "He's fine in the basement."
As the Washington Free Beacon reported, Biden is a "never-ending gaffe machine." No wonder at a time of low enthusiasm and deep divisions in his party, the party leadership would prefer to have him off-screen.
Atlanta mayor: "Let's all work, hope, and pray that this not be a preview of November." "Most of the difficulties were in the Atlanta metro area, where election officials attributed the challenges to the pandemic, inexperienced poll workers, and the influx of mail-in ballots, though some voters asserted that the voting machines themselves have not been working, according to CNN." (Daily Caller) Yesterday social media was full of reports of extraordinarily long lines, broken machines, and general confusion and frustration for Georgia's primary elections. The state has already opened an investigation.
Election Day 2020 this November is expected to be unlike any other, with a rise in mail-in ballots and uncertainty over voting procedures as some are embroiled in lawsuits right now.
It's not an encouraging sign that, in light of the challenges, the Mayor of Atlanta tweeted, "Let’s all work, hope and pray that this not be a preview of November."
The Republican National Convention is headed to Florida. Maybe. "The 2020 Republican National Convention might not be taking place in Jacksonville, according to Republican National Committee (RNC) officials. Multiple senior RNC officials pushed back on The Washington Post’s claim that the “GOP expects to move its convention to Jacksonville” from Charlotte, North Carolina, in statements made to Daily Caller." (Daily Caller) Though several news outlets reported that the Republican National Convention will now be in Jacksonville, Florida, GOP staff told the Daily Caller that those reports are "premature."
Other cities reported to be in consideration include Dallas, Phoenix, and Savannah -- and there were earlier reports that the party may consider a first-of-its-kind, multi-city convention.
Still, Florida seems a likely choice as its an important state in the 2020 election and the governor is very enthusiastic about hosting the convention.
