Hi – this is Congresswoman Haley Stevens writing to you with exciting news: Today, I’m launching my campaign for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat.

Winning in Michigan is essential to regaining our Democratic Senate majority, and right now The Cook Political Report is rating our race as a “Toss Up.” That means we’re already one of the GOP’s top targets for defeat. Just last year, they spent nearly $80 million trying to buy Michigan’s Senate seat and came up only 0.3% short, so I need your early support to win.

I want to tell you a bit more about myself and why I’m running. I’m proud to be a lifelong Michigander. I learned the value of hard work by watching my parents – who owned their own landscaping business – build things. Heavy machinery equipment, bobcats, plows, dirt, grease, and grime – it was all part of my childhood.

Later in life, I got the call to give back to the state I love during a time of great uncertainty: the Great Recession. I can’t tell you how unfathomable it was to hear the words “bankruptcy” and “General Motors” in the same sentence. So I stepped up to do my part and served as chief of staff for the Auto Rescue initiative under President Obama.

We brought workers, corporations, and union leadership around the same table to stabilize the auto industry. On Friday nights, I’d stay in the office until the late evening and return every call from every Michigander who called our office worried about the future. In the end, we saved 200,000 Michigan jobs.

I can’t help but see parallels between then and now as we find ourselves in another moment of great uncertainty, thanks to the chaos forced on us by Donald Trump and his billionaire buddy Elon Musk.

People are rightly concerned about rising costs, shoot-from-the-hip tariffs, and attacks on our personal freedoms. Michiganders need a fighter in their corner – and that’s who I’ve been my entire life.
