The first quarter fundraising numbers are in – and they confirm what we’ve known for a while: California’s 49th District is one of the GOP’s top targets.
Our likely Republican opponent was the highest-raising Republican challenger in the entire country.
That’s a big deal at this stage of the race, and no mere coincidence: He’s backed by national Republicans and millionaire MAGA donors who know that this seat is key to control of the House majority.
My margin of victory in this seat has gotten slimmer every election cycle. From a 12.8% margin when we flipped this seat in 2018, to our closest race yet in November where I won by a 4.4% margin against a self-funding opponent.
This fight is far from over. If we’re going to protect this district and stop a Trump Republican from taking this seat, we need to keep up the pressure protecting our democracy and delivering for working families in CA-49.
