It is undeniably true that the LGBTQ+ community has made incredible strides toward equality in recent years. But at the same time, extremists are more emboldened than ever to berate our community with ugly and dangerous attacks.

Listen, as one of just a handful of LGBTQ+ representatives in Washington, I understand just how difficult this moment is for LGBTQ+ folks all across the country. In far too many places, we’re seeing extreme politicians not only ignore, but encourage discrimination against our community.

I want you to know that no matter who you are, who you love, or how you identify, you deserve acceptance. You deserve dignity. And you deserve a government that protects your most basic human rights.

The progress we’ve made together over the years has been so inspiring, and I refuse to let a handful of extreme politicians stop my work to build a more just and equal nation.

That’s why I want to make this promise to you: No matter how many ugly attacks are thrown my way in the future, I will continue to speak out and keep pushing forward toward equality. And I will keep fighting until every American has the freedom and security to live their lives openly and proudly.

If that mission speaks to you, then I am humbly asking for your support at this consequential moment for our community. This fight for equality will be long and difficult, but with you by my side, I know we can win.
