DSA-LA Convention 2025 Recap
|
After a day of debate and camaraderie, we are proud to announce our chapter's priority resolutions for the coming year. Fight Fascism & Right Wing Extremism!, will develop a rapid response working group to meet the political moment, and Power to the Tenants, which will continue its organizing efforts around housing and tenants issues for a third year—address two of the most urgent issues facing Angelenos.
These resolutions were selected at the chapter’s annual convention, held at the United Auto Workers Region 6 in Pico Rivera on Sunday, April 13. Following debate blocks, priority resolutions were chosen by a two-thirds majority vote of 221 members in attendance, along with 105 members who voted by proxy. This turnout represents nearly 10% of the chapter’s 3,220 members in good standing.
By choosing only a few projects to classify as organizational priorities each year, DSA-LA employs its limited resources most effectively and creates clear ways for working class Angelenos to get involved in the chapter. Work for priority resolutions is done on top of and in collaboration with the chapter’s many evergreen committees and time-bound working groups.
If you are a member in good standing, you can view more detailed convention materials on our member portal.

Join us for Day One of our “Earth Day to May Day” week of action!
In 2025, it may be tempting to write off Earth Day as a more than a corporatized green-washed celebration of sustainability. Capitalists would like to use it as the one day a year where they get to pretend to care about the planet, and absolve themselves of their contributions to pollution and climate change. As socialists, we know there’s more to it than that. As socialists, we know that Earth Day started as a massive protest movement, funded by labor unions such as UAW, and led to real systemic change.
In 2025, our Earth Day is an opportunity to recognize that the climate crisis is intertwined with the class struggle. To implement radical change and get ecosocialist wins, we need the working class to stand in solidarity with each other and with the planet.
Join us for this social and educational event to celebrate Earth Day and discuss how we can engage the LA labor movement in our fight for environmental and climate justice. This event is transit-accessible on the Westside in Culver City. RSVP for specific location details!

Municipal Power, Politics, and Struggle in Los Angeles: A Panel Discussion
|
Saturday, April 26 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
|
Over the course of our recent study series (Open Shop or Union Town? Power, Organization and Struggle in the Wicked City) comrades engaged with historical and first-person accounts that explored the social, political and economic forces that have shaped Los Angeles history. We examined Los Angeles’s early development as an open shop town, the mid-century rise of organized labor and its subsequent erosion alongside deindustrialisation, the ascendency of the Latino Labor alliance at the end of the 20th century, and the development of Status Quo Coalition that governs contemporary municipal politics.
Grounded in lessons from this study series, this facilitated panel discussion takes up questions about the cracks and contradictions within the Status Quo Coalition, and opportunities for socialist politics at the municipal level. Moderated discussion will feature voices from electoral organizing, labor, DSA-LA, and more, and the event will ensure time for audience questions.
