Every year, Earth Day makes me pause to reflect on what it means to protect our planet and its people. I think about the generations who came before us and those coming next, and what kind of world we’re leaving behind.
I’m 87 years old, John, and I’m still in this fight. Not because I have to be, but because I believe, deep in my bones, that every single one of us has something powerful to contribute. And because, frankly, we don’t have time to waste.
This year, Earth Day feels a bit different.
As you read this, Donald Trump and his MAGA bandwagon are rolling back life-saving climate protections. He’s gutting scientific agencies and handing the reins of our government to fossil fuel billionaires who treat our planet like a blank check.
But that’s not the full story. Not even close.
Because I’ve also seen something extraordinary. I’ve seen thousands of people rise up to meet this moment. In just the past few months, our grassroots movement helped elect bold climate champions, defended key state legislatures from anti-climate takeovers, and defeated fossil fuel interests in high-stakes races backed by Elon Musk’s deep pockets.
We’ve already elected four climate champions to office this year, and I don’t say that to brag. I say it to remind you that hope is alive. Momentum is building on the state and local levels. And we are not backing down.
If I’ve learned anything in my lifetime of activism, it’s this: Change doesn’t just happen. It’s built by people who refuse to give up. That’s why today, I’m reaffirming my pledge to keep going. To speak out and fight back. To rally, organize, and elect climate leaders who will defend our planet like our lives depend on it — because they do.
John, I hope you’ll join me and add your name to our Earth Day pledge to commit to fighting for climate justice and electing leaders who will protect our planet. No matter how hard Trump and Big Oil try to silence us, we will rise stronger and more united than ever. [[link removed]]
