Dear Friend,
Happy Earth Day!!
I think this is the first federal election campaign where Earth Day falls so close to voting! The 2011 election was on May 2, so we did have Earth Day within the writ, but this election campaign is notable for how little any candidates — except Greens — are demanding environmental action.
I first organized for Earth Day on the very first one — April 22, 1970 — when I was in grade 10. I could never have imagined that by 2025, 55 years later, our world would be in even graver danger from pollution and environmental neglect of all kinds. As a Canadian voter, I would never have imagined that in the throes of climate chaos party leaders would be calling for more fossil fuel infrastructure. The other parties seem to all sing from the same song sheet — and it sure is not music and lyrics by Pete Seeger or Joni Mitchell!
It is “Drill, Baby, Drill” from all of them. But we are still standing and we are the voice of reason in the room. We will never abandon necessary action in the face of three-word rhyming slogans.
At least on Earth Day you would think the news media might want to ask about threats to the survival of human civilization. I always think of the great line from Ronald Wright’s book, A Short History of Progress: every time history repeats itself, the price goes up!
We still have a chance to save ourselves. We still have a real chance to protect other species and ecosystems. As Greens, we know this is the fight of our lives.
Please, with six days to go in this campaign, can you help in the valiant campaigns of Green candidates and volunteers from coast to coast to coast?

Despite the unjust exclusions and media black-outs, we have a real prospect of electing more Green MPs than ever before.
We are so grateful for your support. Please send what you can today. And please let all your friends know — this is the year to VOTE Green like your life depends on it, because it does.
Love and peace,
Elizabeth May, O.C.
Incumbent Green MP & Candidate for Saanich—Gulf Islands
Co-Leader, Green Party of Canada
P.S. For those who remember, April 22, 2019 was the day that John Kidder and I got married! And yes, six years later we are still strong Greens — John running in [Mission—Matsqui—Abbotsford]([link removed]) and me in [Saanich—Gulf Islands]([link removed])! Onwards!!
