Dear Greens and Green Party
Supporters,
Happy Earth Day! Thank you for all
you do for people and planet in the name of social justice and
sustainability.
This month GPNY brings you two
important events.
Repeal the Stock Transfer Tax Rebate!
If you are in NYC or happen to be
passing through on Wednesday, April 23 at noon, there will be an
important press conference highlighting bills to make Wall Street pay
their fair share of taxes on the billions traded each year. The repeal
of the Stock Transfer Tax rebate, long a demand of the Green Party,
is needed now more than ever. Join co-chair Gloria Mattera and other
Greens at the press conference and rally. Contact [email protected] if
you can attend.
Stock Transfer Tax rebate bill press conference &
rally:
New York State Assemblymember Phil Steck and Senator James
Sanders Jr. will join representatives from the Corporate Campaign, New
York State Council of Churches, the New Economy Project, the Green

State to reinstate the Stock Transfer Tax. Originally enacted in 1905,
the Stock Transfer Tax was a modest half-penny levy on stock trades.
However, it was repealed in 1981, resulting in an estimated loss of
$13 to $17 billion in annual revenue for the state.
What: Press
conference discussing the importance of reinstating the Stock Transfer
Tax (a1494a/s1237)
When: Wednesday,
April 23rd at 12 PM

New York Needs Health Care for All!
The New York Health Act lobby day
in March was a great success, but there is much more work to do in
getting it passed by the State Legislature so every New Yorker can
have safe, quality and affordable health care.

OPEN to EVERYONE
When healthcare is compared to
other similar industrialized nations the US spends more, has poor
healthcare outcomes, widespread socioeconomic disparities, doesn't
cover everyone, and rampant medical debt destroys lives. Despite New
York having relatively “progressive” healthcare policies,
approximately 1 million residents have NO health insurance and suffer
from the healthcare system’s ill effects. The New York Health Act
(NYHA); S3425/A1466 is an active bill in the New York state
legislature that could radically transform healthcare access by
guaranteeing comprehensive, high quality healthcare for EVERY person
living AND working in New York regardless of income, job status, or
immigration status. The NYHA would create a Single Payer/Medicare for
All type system in NY state, eradicating premiums, co-pays, and
deductibles. Despite the NYHA having recently passed the NY State
Assembly four years in a row and having a current majority
co-sponsorship in the Senate, many New Yorkers are not even aware of
this bill.
Join us on Monday April 28th
7-8:30PM EST via Zoom to learn more about NY Health Act:
