Hey folks, it’s John, and this one is personal.   

The Trump administration just placed almost every AmeriCorps member on administrative leave. That means good folks who volunteered to serve their communities – and live on a stipend of about $13 a day – are now being forced to the sidelines.

This makes *no* sense. I can tell you firsthand: AmeriCorps makes the world a better place. 💯

I joined AmeriCorps in 1995 and served at the Hill House in Pittsburgh’s historic Hill District. I taught GED classes and helped set up the neighborhood’s first computer labs. It changed my life. And it helped my neighbors in my community.

👉 AmeriCorps isn’t “woke.” It’s not some culture war bullsh*t. It’s national service. It’s the best of us.

And Trump wants to gut it – why? So he can give himself + his billionaire cronies another tax break? Ridiculous.  

🚨 If you’re with me, will you sign my petition right now + demand they let AmeriCorps folks get back to work? I'm trying to get 5,000 signatures before midnight tonight, and it would mean a lot if you were one of them.

Nobody joins AmeriCorps to get rich. They do it because they *care.* Because they want to serve. Because they want to give back to their communities and build a better future for our country.

Responding to natural disasters. Supporting veterans. Building affordable housing. Covering gaps in our health care system. Tutoring our kids.

AmeriCorps workers do good work day in and day out, and now Republicans are telling them to f*ck off.

We need to stand together now because there's strength in numbers. We have to tell Trump and his administration: Put AmeriCorps workers back on the job. Stop screwing with people who are *actually* trying to help their communities.
