Paul Eaton here.
The Department of Defense has been pulled into complete chaos, and this is happening as a direct result of Donald Trump and the man he nominated for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth.
In three short months Hegseth has made a mockery of the finest Military force the world has ever known. This has gone on long enough. Pete Hegseth has to resign, and if he won’t leave willingly we’ve got to exert enough pressure to ensure President Trump fires him.
I need you to join VoteVets on this. Add your name and demand Pete Hegseth’s resignation.
HEGSETH: RESIGN: [link removed]
This all started well before Hegseth took the job. He was unprepared and unqualified on day one. We warned them about this, and it’s important to highlight something there: Trump forcing through an unqualified nominee does not help his administration accomplish their goals. All it does is weaken the force and our national security.
Republicans in the Senate knew this, and they confirmed him anyway. Within weeks, Hegseth was sharing extremely sensitive strike plans in unsecured, hackable texting groups. At the time that story broke, we said it was a virtual certainty that Hegseth was sharing critical national security secrets in other unsecured channels.
Yesterday, that was confirmed. The Secretary of Defense shared sensitive and detailed plans for Yemen strikes with his wife, his brother, and his lawyer on March 15th. The information isn’t coming from the press this time, either. A half dozen high level staff at the Pentagon have resigned or been fired over the last week, and they are the ones breaking this news.
Let me be clear: Missing an exit on the highway is a mistake. This is not a mistake. Sharing information like this with uncleared individuals is criminal recklessness, and exposes the U.S. Military to unacceptable risk. Moreover, it is now an established pattern of behavior.
I spent decades in the Army. I have never seen anything like this. And this is personal. My fighter pilot Father was lost, almost certainly to hostile fire over the well defended Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos during the Vietnam War. You get my drift.
Bottom line: The Secretary of Defense is a national security threat. Each day he stays at his post is another day that the men and women serving our country are in danger. We should never have faced this problem in the first place, but the next best time to solve it is today.
I’m asking you to join me in speaking directly to the Secretary of Defense now. Tell Pete Hegseth: It is time for you to do the right thing and resign. Thousands and thousands of VoteVets supporters agree, and I hope you’ll add your name to the list.
