This year, National Volunteer Appreciation Week is April 20 to 26. Join the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in celebrating our inspiring network of volunteers!
Volunteers are the heart of AFSP. These dedicated champions of suicide prevention care deeply about the cause, and they reach people in communities everywhere by delivering education and support programs, walking to raise awareness and funds, advocating for lifesaving policies, and so much more. Without them, our mission to save lives and spread hope would not be possible.
In a recent article for AFSP's Real Stories blog, longtime volunteer Ali Walker reflects on what volunteering means for her, and the moments that have kept her coming back to the mission:
"Volunteering with AFSP for the past 15 years has rebuilt my sense of self-efficacy and restored my hope for the future. With each opportunity I’ve been given to support AFSP’s mission — to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide — I have increasingly appreciated the powerful impact we can have as individuals. When I pause to reflect on the thousands of other passionate volunteers across the country who are doing what I have done and so much more, I feel overwhelmed with gratitude."
