Off the leash and championing local businesses

Changes in Government mean I can put all my effort in Parliament into issues that affect us locally. Read more in my latest article here ([link removed]) .

Surveying on the doorsteps

As recess gets under way, I have been knocking on doors to survey residents about priorities they have for me when Parliament returns. With 50,000 doors across the constituency, this is no mean feat, but I hope to reach as many as I can. I am pictured above with Cllr Sally Ann Hart and Cllr Jimmy Carroll in Bexhill.

Rail Fares

With the announcement that rail fares will rise by 2.8% from January 2020, I am calling for the fare increase to be linked to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate which would lower the increase by almost 1%. Read more here ([link removed]) .

Observer Article

In my Observer article, I touched on my hope that Prime Minister Boris Johnson can get a revised Brexit agreement that will benefit the UK. Read here ([link removed]) .

John Fuller Mausoleum

I recently visited the John “Mad Jack” Fuller Mausoleum in Brightling parish churchyard. I am backing the campaign, set up by Jane Beard, to raise funds to preserve this important piece of local history. Read more here ([link removed]) .

Rail travel for 16-17 year olds

I have long campaigned for reduced travel prices for 16-17 year olds and welcome the government’s announcement that 16-17 year olds will be able to get half price rail travel from this September. Read more here ([link removed]) .

Children's Services Consultation

A number of constituents have contacted me regarding East Sussex County Council's Early Year's consultation which could see the closure of local children's centres and the transfer of two nurseries out of Council control. You can read my response to the consultation here ([link removed]) .

Saxonwood Care Home

Fantastic to see Saxonwood Care Home receive a well-deserved ‘Good’ rating by the Care Quality Commission and ‘Outstanding’ for being responsive. Congratulations to all the staff members, who I know work so hard to provide the best care. Looking forward to joining them for their Macmillan coffee morning in September.

Work Experience Opportunities

It was a pleasure to host Victoria, who joined me for work experience. Victoria was able to shadow my team in Westminster and in the Bexhill office. Read about Victoria’s experience in her own words here ([link removed]) .

If you would like to arrange an appointment to see me at an advice surgery, please email: [email protected] or call 01424 736861
