The ESA Amendments Act, the Pet and Livestock Protection Act, and local bills like HB 259 in Montana threaten the gray wolf population. The Montana bill would legalize cruel methods like baiting and night hunting with infrared scopes. If passed, this legislation would put wolf packs, like the 8 Mile Pack and Lolo Pack, at direct risk—undermining decades of recovery work and further endangering Montana's gray wolves.
And the threats don't stop there. Bills like these further empower Congress to strip Endangered Species Act protections from wildlife at the behest of big corporations and developers – ignoring science and public outcry.
But I have good news. Our efforts in Montana have already defeated HB176 and HB 258, bills that would have mandated unlimited hunting quotas when the gray wolf population reached just 550, extended the wolf hunting season by three months, and allowed the killing of wolf pups. This shows that we are scoring wins where it really counts. We just need your help to keep up the fight.
