As an undercover investigator myself, I know the horrific reality of life in industrial agriculture for cows. But nothing could have prepared me for what we uncovered in our latest investigation.
For two months, I supervised an undercover investigation at Manning Beef, Los Angeles' last remaining cow slaughterhouse, documenting what would become the most disturbing investigation in Animal Outlook's 30-year history.
What we uncovered there will continue to haunt me: cows being butchered alive while hanging upside down, animals being shot in their heads with captive bolt guns multiple times, and workers skinning the faces of cows who jerked away from the knife. In one piece of footage captured by our investigator, a dairy cow collapsed, was repeatedly shocked with cattle prods while she bellowed in agony, and was shot three times before falling limply to the ground.
Perhaps most heartbreaking were the piles of unborn calf fetuses – carelessly discarded in a callous display of disrespect for these beautiful babies.
I'm sharing this with you because we need your help. Animal Outlook has submitted evidence to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office, pushing for 95 criminal animal cruelty counts against Manning Beef. But legal action requires resources, and that's where you come in.
Push for legal accountability, including criminal charges, against those responsible for these abuses
Advocate for stronger enforcement of animal protection laws
Prepare our team for the next undercover investigation
Expose the truth about industrial animal agriculture so that more people will realize the truth about our food system
Will you stand with us? A donation of $50, $100, or any amount you can give will help ensure that the suffering I witnessed doesn't go unpunished.
The images we captured have changed me forever. Together, we can change the system that allows such cruelty to persist. If you've also been moved by this investigation, the most effective way to help farmed animals is to make the compassionate choice to leave them off your plate.
For the animals,
Erin Wing
