Blessings on This Easter Sunday | Trade and Joint Economic Hearings

Happy Easter! Today, Christians in Kansas and around the world gathered to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He is risen!

Today is the day of celebration following Jesus’ coming to earth as a baby – celebrated at Christmas, dying on the cross – recognized on Good Friday, and rising again on Easter Sunday. This series of events impacted the course of human history forever.

Easter reminds us of a message of love and hope for our world. In First Peter, we read, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.”

.Recently the Ways and Means Committee held a hearing on President Trump’s trade policy agenda. We welcomed U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, who spoke about the Trump administration’s efforts to level the playing field for American workers and producers.

In recent years, foreign nations have imposed unfair tariffs and enacted trade barriers against American exports, negatively impacting American manufacturing and ag producers. In Kansas, non-reciprocal trade policies hurt farmers, ranchers, manufacturers and workers. President Trump’s America First agenda seeks to level the economic playing field for American manufacturers and producers.

Headline: Joint Economic Committee Hearing

.The Joint Economic Committee recently held a hearing on using AI to help identify waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government. I spoke about how removing waste from the federal government used to have bipartisan support, but now it is a divisive issue in Washington.

The Government Accountability Office has estimated that the federal government has between $233 billion and $521 billion in aggregate fraud each year. We must put a stop to the blatant theft of taxpayer dollars. Every dollar we can save by eliminating fraud is a dollar that can go to the rightful beneficiaries of Social Security and other programs.

.Did you know that President-elect Lincoln raised the American flag in honor of Kansas’ admission to the Union in 1861? Lincoln raised the flag at Independence Hall on George Washington’s birthday, Feb. 22, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Kansas had become the Union’s 34th state about a month prior on Jan. 29, 1861. As a result, a 34th star was added to the national flag.
