Donald Trump just stood before Congress and told one of his biggest lies yet, calling the CHIPS and Science Act “a horrible, horrible thing.” Let’s be clear: that law is creating jobs, revitalizing U.S. manufacturing, and ending our dangerous dependence on foreign-made semiconductors.

So why is Trump trashing it? Because he can’t stand progress unless it has his name on it. In true MAGA fashion, Trump didn’t stop at the lies. He urged Speaker Mike Johnson to “get rid of” the CHIPS Act and use the money for “any other reason you want.”

That’s code for: funnel taxpayer dollars into the pockets of corporate cronies and extremist pet projects. This isn’t just an insult to bipartisan progress, it’s a threat to American innovation and national security.

Let’s be real: The CHIPS and Science Act is already delivering, Intel, TSMC, Micron, and other major players are investing billions in domestic chip plants. Thousands of jobs are being created in Ohio, Arizona, New York, and beyond. Repealing it would gut those projects and send a chilling message to any business thinking about investing in America.

Trump’s plan is to kill the CHIPS Act and slap on tariffs. That’s fantasy. Tariffs won’t build semiconductor fabrication facilities. Tariffs won’t train engineers.

If Congress lets Trump get away with sabotaging the CHIPS Act, we hand him the blueprint to dismantle every investment our nation has made in clean energy, broadband, and the 21st-century economy.

Without the CHIPS Act, we will fall behind in tech, weaken our national defense, lose high-paying jobs in cities that have waited decades for real investment.
