There’s no denying 2024 was filled with global crises, from the horrifying conflict in Gaza to increasing climate catastrophe. And now with Donald Trump in power, the outlook for change feels daunting. But thanks to supporters like you, we were able to act fast in a rapidly changing political climate.
Last year, this involved speaking out against our government’s backing of Israel’s assault on Gaza, adapting to the early general election, and identifying opportunities like the chance to overturn Colombia’s toxic trade deal with the UK. Right now, we’re responding to Trump’s impact on all our work – from aid cuts, to the climate crisis and corporate power.
In times that are fraught with uncertainty, we need hope. That’s why I want to share the incredible campaign successes you helped achieve last year. One of my highlights from last year was celebrating a monumental victory: the UK’s exit from the climate-wrecking Energy Charter Treaty (ECT). This capped off three years of dedicated campaigning against this trade agreement that allowed fossil fuel companies to sue governments over climate action. Now this toxic agreement is on the brink of collapse.
