Key decisions about funding child care, education, housing, and other essential services remain unresolved, and instead of moving towards finalizing the state budget, Governor Hochul is pushing a change to election law that would benefit her politically.
Email Governor Hochul and the Legislature now telling them New Yorkers are waiting on a budget that puts people first - not politics. Governor Hochul says she’s fighting for us, for New Yorkers, and it’s high time she proves it by passing a budget that delivers for our kids, families, and communities across the state.
The Governor’s delay isn’t just frustrating, it’s already putting real strain on working families and service providers across the state. The longer the holdup, the less time agencies and local governments will have to plan their budgets with accurate information. That means tighter, underfunded budgets, and fewer resources for the people who need them most.
We know how hard it can be to stay engaged during slow, high-stakes negotiations like this. While the Governor figures out her end of this deal, here are a few simple ways you can stay engaged:
Find an accountability partner: Check in regularly with a friend to stay motivated. Start by sharing this email with someone who can take action with you!
Set a reminder: Schedule a daily or weekly nudge with a link to our action page.
Go analog: Paper calendars and sticky notes work too - whatever helps you keep the pressure on!
Our action page will always have the latest tools and updates, so it’s easy to jump back in anytime. And yes, you can and should email your legislators more than once - even daily, if you’re up to it. Repeating your message sends a powerful signal.
We’re deeply grateful for your persistence. Let’s keep pushing for a budget that delivers for kids, families, and communities across New York. And please, don’t forget to take care of yourself along the way.
