Folks, big news: I introduced new legislation to challenge Trump’s authority to issue the sweeping tariffs (also just known as taxes!) he announced earlier this month in a chaotic and reckless move that sent global markets into a tailspin.

Since the Trump White House seems to have forgotten basic civics, a reminder: The executive branch cannot create or change laws out of thin air. It’s the legislative branch — a.k.a. Congress — that is responsible for writing laws, including those that govern trade and tariffs.
That means it’s also Congress’s responsibility to reassert its authority when the President oversteps the bounds of his power.
Trump’s tariff strategy is raising costs on American families, threatening alliances that our national security depends on, and creating opportunity for China and other adversaries to take advantage of global instability.
Congress can’t stand by and watch our economy crash, people’s retirement accounts plummet, and prices skyrocket — we must take action.
