Malaria is the world’s third most deadly disease for young children between the ages of 1 month and 5 years: each day, over 1,000 children die from the disease. With your support, UNICEF can ramp up its work to prevent and treat malaria in the communities most affected.
Malaria is caused by parasites transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito. Cases have been on the rise since 2015 due to declining investments in malaria programs, overstretched health systems, disruptions caused by conflict and displacement and the spread of invasive mosquito species. Climate change, which helps create ideal conditions for mosquitoes to breed, is predicted to worsen the situation.
A gift today will be 3X matched to help prevent and stop the spread of malaria and other deadly diseases before they can threaten the lives of even more children.
UNICEF is working to turn the tide against malaria through several powerful and effective initiatives:
-
Administering highly effective, lifesaving vaccinations to protect children. In Ghana, Kenya and Malawi, millions of children were reached — dropping the all-cause child mortality rate by 13 percent.
-
Providing mosquito bed nets to prevent transmission. In 2023 alone, UNICEF provided more than 13 million mosquito nets in over 50 countries.
-
Strengthening health systems through diagnostic tests and antimalarial medications. UNICEF works with governments to ensure children have access to early malaria diagnosis and treatments, especially in hard-to-reach areas.
-
Spreading community awareness and education. By partnering with local leaders and health workers, networks, faith groups and schools, UNICEF works to share information about malaria symptoms, treatments and preventative interventions.
Your support today could help deliver key supplies such as mosquito nets, rapid diagnostic tests, antimalarials and vaccinations to the children most at risk of infection. UNICEF’s efforts ensure that care and treatment reach children with infectious diseases wherever they are. Don’t miss this chance to make 3X the impact in fighting the most deadly — yet curable and preventable — diseases facing children today. |
Thank you for your continued compassion for children,
