Action breeds hope.
Hi John — I want to talk for a moment about hope.
The last few months have been hard.
An unelected billionaire is threatening Social Security, Medicare, and education funding. The president is pushing the bounds of our democracy every day. And the cost of living just keeps rising.
In moments like these, it’s tempting to give in to despair. The kind of despair that just makes you want to turn your head, look away, and say, “I’m out.”
But here’s what else I’ve learned: Action breeds hope. And action plus hope feels a heck of a lot better than fear and despair.
I know it, because I’ve lived it. In 2018, we scared off a 12-term Republican incumbent and flipped a red seat — winning a Democratic House majority and laying the groundwork to defeat Donald Trump in 2020. And now, we’re building an even stronger grassroots movement across New Jersey in this race for governor.
Because for as hard as these last few months have been, I’ve also been reminded of how many people care enough about this country and their community to do the hard work of making it better — including everyone who has knocked a door, made a phone call, signed a petition, or chipped in a few bucks to power this grassroots campaign.
