Recently, Attorney General Eric Holder appeared on MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes. He talked about our big win in Wisconsin to protect the state supreme court’s pro-democracy majority — and he laid out how we must defeat Trump’s extremist agenda across the country.

“I think what happened in Wisconsin reverberates beyond the borders of that state and was, as Elon Musk said, a referendum on the Trump-Musk alliance and what it is that they have been doing to our country as they try to reorder our society.”

Let’s be clear: Elon Musk poured more than $20 million into the Wisconsin Supreme Court race to try to buy an extreme right-wing court majority, which, as the GOP candidate stated, would act as a “support network” for Trump — and Wisconsinites stopped him.

But the threat goes far beyond the borders of the Badger State. Trump and MAGA Republicans have made it clear they have no inclination to protect the American people. They would rather weaponize the law for their own selfish gains, to further their extremist agenda, all at the expense of working-class people.

We also know that the far right will redouble their efforts after losing in Wisconsin. So we’ll need to keep stopping them at the ballot box this year, from Michigan to Pennsylvania to Virginia. Critical state-level races will continue to decide who controls the redistricting process and the levers of power.

Ensuring free and fair elections is especially pressing right now because, as the GOP continues down their radical path, they will still try to cling to power by restricting voting rights and manipulating electoral maps. At the NDRC, we’re fighting back against these assaults on our freedoms, working to elect Democracy Defenders, and pushing forward with our 10 Year Plan to end gerrymandering and secure fair maps.
