Chippewa County Man to Stand Trial on First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct Charges

*LANSING* – Today, Aaron Jarrett, 36, most recently of Clark County, Washington, was bound over to stand trial in the 50th Circuit Court in Chippewa County on four counts of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and one count of Kidnapping for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in 2016, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Jarrett was extradited to Chippewa County [ [link removed] ] from Washington in February by the U.S. Marshals Service as part of Operation Survivor Justice [ [link removed] ]. 

“Because of Operation Survivor Justice, Mr. Jarrett will finally stand trial after nearly nine years,” Nessel said. “My Department remains committed to using this vital partnership to ensure that those facing serious charges are located, apprehended, and held accountable.” 

Jarrett is accused of sexually assaulting a Chippewa County woman in May 2016 and was charged by the Chippewa County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office later that same year. 

Extraditions through Operation Survivor Justice were funded last year by a $1 million state appropriation. The Operation is a partnership between the Michigan Department of Attorney General, local county prosecutors, and the U.S. Marshals Service to locate, apprehend, and return to Michigan fugitive offenders with outstanding sexual assault warrants. 

A trial date has not yet been set.
