President's Message

NASN's vision is for all students to be healthy, safe, and ready to learn.

Every Kid Healthy™ Week starts next week, and each day shines a spotlight on the actions schools and families are taking to improve the health and wellness of children - because healthy kids are better prepared to learn and thrive!

The communities where children and families live, learn, work, and play profoundly influence their physical and emotional health and well-being. Healthy communities provide the infrastructure and resources that create the conditions and opportunities to support healthy lifestyles. School nurses emerge as vital champions, forging partnerships that transcend sectors to dismantle barriers to health and learning while enhancing health processes and outcomes.

Together, we can ensure all children have a bright and healthy future!

Kate King, DNP, MS, RN, LSN

NASN News and Highlights

Security Management Magazine Q&A With NASN CEO

Both preventative and reactive, school nurses deal with the physical, emotional, and mental aspects deeply intertwined with security risks. They are often in a position and possess the skill and judgment to identify and address an issue with a student (i.e., trauma, mental illness, signs of abuse) and are expected to provide treatment or guidance to anyone who has been harmed. In a conversation with ASIS International, NASN CEO Terri Hinkley emphasizes Why School Nurses Should Get a Seat at the School Safety Table.
