Join Us to Celebrate Our Impact in the Greater Prince William Community

For more than 100 years, NVFS has been helping people and families move from crisis to stability to a thriving future. This year, we are highlighting our service in the Greater Prince William community. We have two exciting ways you can join us to celebrate!

NVFS kicked off its first Choose Your Challenge <[link removed]> initiative this spring. Choose Your Challenge is an opportunity to host a tailored DIY fundraiser that will appeal to your social circle. Host a bake sale, have a game night, organize a fitness challenge, or create a tribute page to honor someone special. However you choose to fundraise, every dollar will help provide services to the children and families in Greater Prince William.

We also invite you to join us on Thursday, June 5, for the Greater Prince William Community Celebration <[link removed]>, where we’ll bring together businesses, community leaders and supporters to celebrate our commitment to strengthening families and building a thriving community. Tickets and sponsorships <[link removed]> are available now.

With your support, NVFS can continue to provide access to basic needs for families as well as early childhood education, mental health support, workforce development and more to help create long-term pathways to stability in Northern Virginia.

Thank You to Burke & Herbert Bank’s Goals for Good Program!

As the Washington Capitals season ends, we’d like to share our heartfelt thanks to Burke & Herbert Bank for selecting NVFS to be the recipient of its Goals for Good <[link removed]> program. For every goal the Caps scored this season, Burke & Herbert Bank donated $ 100 to NVFS, to help fund our programs to support individuals and families on their journeys to wellbeing. At last count, Burke & Herbert Bank donated more than $ 28,000 and that's not even counting the last regular season game! This was a record-breaking season for the Caps, as Alex Ovechkin became the NHL’s all-time leading scorer, surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s record. Thank you to Burke & Herbert Bank for their commitment to serving our community and helping NVFS have a positive impact on the lives of more than 40,000 of our neighbors.

Volunteers in Their Own Voice

We recently asked long-time volunteer Crystal Brown of Apple Federal Credit Union (FCU) why she and Apple FCU volunteer with NVFS and here is what she had to say:

I love how NVFS has an outlet for just about every need you can think of and continues to uncover new needs. NVFS is careful to keep the people in our community at the focus point of every decision made; I love how NVFS opens their doors to volunteers and allows us to have the opportunity to give back to our community and to those in need. When I am onsite, I look forward to what I am doing. I also look at that opportunity as if this was me on the receiving end. I hope there are others who put as much care and concern when they volunteer and donate in whatever capacity. For the rest of my coworkers at Apple FCU, they also believe the same and remember that our organization was founded on the act of service and giving and this is way for them to continue that cycle.

To Crystal, Apple FCU, and all our wonderful volunteers, THANK YOU! Your help contributes to our ability to support more than 40,000 individuals a year on their journey to wellbeing.

If you are considering volunteering reach out to us and we can help match your interests with our needs and an impactful experience. Contact us today at [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]?subject=Volunteering at NVFS>.

Business After Hours Event Builds Connections Between NVFS and the Greater Prince William Community

On a beautiful spring day last month, NVFS came together with the Prince William Chamber of Commerce to network and build new connections at the Business After Hours event. Taking place on the NVFS SERVE campus <[link removed]>, the event brought together local professionals for an evening of meaningful conversation and a chance to explore the impactful work happening in our Greater Prince William community. NVFS President and CEO, Stephanie Berkowitz, welcomed attendees and shared our mission with fellow business leaders. Many thanks to the Prince William Chamber of Commerce for their partnership and to Noris Churros <[link removed]>, for providing their sweet treats for attendees. Learn more <[link removed]> about how you can get involved in serving the Greater Prince William community.

Thanks to YOU, we met—and surpassed— our Spring2ACTion match!

Because of your incredible generosity and support, we raised more than $ 36,000 during Spring2ACTion, unlocking the full $ 15,000 match from our amazing sponsor, the Mason Hirst Foundation. That included an additional $ 500 grant for placing on the Kids’ First Years Leaderboard, a friendly competition between some of the early childhood partners.

That’s more than $ 36,000 to support:

* New parents receiving guidance and care through home visiting programs
* Children in child welfare systems who now have trusted advocates by their side
* Families facing tough times who will get one-on-one coaching and support

From all of us at NVFS, thank you for showing up with compassion, hope, and action. Your gift will help children and families build healthy starts and brighter futures—and we couldn’t be more grateful. A big thank you to the Mason Hirst Foundation for making every gift go twice as far.
