At hundreds of rallies at Social Security offices around the country, we told Elon Musk and Donald Trump to keep their hands off our earned benefits.
John,
On April 15th, Americans came together with one voice to say: Hands Off Social Security!
At hundreds of rallies at Social Security offices around the country, we told Elon Musk and Donald Trump to keep their hands off our earned benefits.
The rallies were covered on local news channels across the country. And those who spoke out to defend Social Security included dozens of members of Congress, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, former President Joe Biden, and former Social Security Commissioner Martin O’Malley.
We’ve already seen that public outrage makes a difference. Trump and Musk have backed away from plans to slash Social Security’s phone service. And they were forced to restore the ability of Maine parents to register their newborns for Social Security cards in the hospital (instead of having to drive to the nearest Social Security office and wait in line).
But Musk’s DOGE still has Social Security in its crosshairs. They’ve pushed out 7,000 of the Social Security Administration’s hardworking civil servants—directly impacting access to our earned benefits and threatening the future of Social Security. And they’re making plans to lay off thousands more.
We can’t let that happen. That’s why we need to build on our momentum from April 15th—stay loud and keep the pressure on Congress and the administration to defend Social Security for current and future generations.
