When I was 33 years old, I became pregnant with what I hoped would be my second child.

But at 12 weeks, my doctor sent me for an ultrasound at our local hospital where a radiologist I had never met told me that the fetus had no heartbeat and had died about two weeks earlier.

My husband and I were shattered.

The next day, I moved forward with a D&C — a procedure commonly used after miscarriage to expel the fetal tissue. It’s also the procedure used in abortions.

I can’t help but think to myself: What would it have been like if I needed this vital procedure when an abortion ban said I couldn’t have it?

There are 41 states with abortion bans or restrictions. Folks all over the country can no longer access the health care they need, including D&C procedures like mine.

My daughter has fewer rights over her own body than I had three decades ago. Sit with that for a moment.

Women shouldn’t have to talk about these private, difficult moments to be taken seriously. But I share my story because it’s important that folks understand the real impacts of abortion bans.

We have the chance to defeat the GOP extremists who are pushing a national abortion ban and elect a pro-choice majority in the midterms. We can’t afford to sit on the sidelines while the GOP strategizes to win. Will you pitch in anything you can? [[link removed]]
