We just got a sneak peek into part of Trump’s proposed budget and his administration is planning to eliminate all funding for Head Start . With families already struggling with the high and rising costs of child care, housing, and groceries, Trump is making things even harder. Eliminating Head Start would have catastrophic consequences for the nearly 800,000 children and their families, as well as pregnant people, who rely on it for child care and early learning, as well as nutritious meals, vision, hearing, and developmental screenings, and dental care.

Head Start is a basic needs program that:
* enables over a million parents to go to work with the knowledge that their children are safe and cared for
* is essential for families in rural communities where it’s often the only access to child care
* provides nutritious meals, vision, hearing, and developmental screenings, and dental care in addition to preparing children for kindergarten
* employs thousands of early educators who will face the prospect of uncertain futures

We’ve already seen the harmful effects from past attacks on Head Start and the federal workforce: In Eastern Washington State, a Head Start program that supports over 400 kids and employed 70 workers closed because their annual federal funding never arrived. Cuts like this implemented across the entire country would be devastating to the workforce and children’s development.

This is a direct result of DOGE's anti-family, Project 2025 agenda which robs families of essential programs to benefit the rich and wealthy. The good news is that the budget proposal is just a draft, and Congress has the ultimate power over funding decisions. Tell your representatives to protect Head Start and reject any proposal that puts this essential program on the line. [[link removed]]
