Happy Easter to all our residents celebrating! It’s been wonderful to see families coming together and taking part in the many activities happening across Nottingham over the school holidays. Whether you’re joining the Easter Egg Hunt at Green’s Windmill or getting stuck into gardening fun at Woodthorpe Park Plant Nursery, there’s something for everyone this spring. On Sunday 20 April, Sikhs in Nottingham hold their annual Vaisakhi procession, with celebrations planned around Nottingham. Rolling road closures will be in place around Church Street, Norton Street, Nottingham Road and Haydn Road.

Looking ahead, St George’s Day is just around the corner, and I hope many of you will be taking the opportunity to celebrate all that makes our local communities vibrant and proud.

As we enjoy this time of celebration, it's also important to reflect. On Tuesday 22 April, we mark Stephen Lawrence Day – a day to honour the life and legacy of a young man whose future was taken by a racist attack in 1993. It’s a time for us to stand together against discrimination and to renew our commitment to social justice, equity, and opportunity for all. Here in Nottingham, we are proud to be a diverse city – and we continue to work towards a future where everyone feels safe, valued, and included. 

It’s also an exciting time for Nottingham City Council. We’ve recently secured over £16 million from the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) to improve roads and transport across our city. This includes vital resurfacing and maintenance work to help keep Nottingham moving safely and efficiently.

On top of that, we’ve received a £4.6 million boost through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, supporting community projects, business growth, and local skills development. Grant applications are now open – and we’re calling on local organisations to get involved and help shape a greener, fairer, and more inclusive Nottingham.

Egg-citement at Green’s Windmill this Easter!

Looking for a fun family activity this Easter break? Head over to *Green’s Windmill and Science Centre* from *Wednesday 16 to Sunday 20 April 2025*, between *10am and 3pm*, for a fun Easter Egg Hunt!

Children can follow the trail around the windmill, science centre, millyard and community garden to find hidden eggs and win a bumper prize pack for your efforts! It’s the perfect way to enjoy the spring sunshine and explore one of Nottingham’s most charming historic spots.

Grow Your Own at Woodthorpe Park Plant Nursery!????????

The Easter Bank Holiday just got better! Bring the little ones along to Woodthorpe Park Plant Nursery for a range of free family-friendly "Grow Your Own" activities . There will be lots of fun to be had – perfect for kids to explore and learn all about nature and gardening!

Nottingham City welcomes over £16 million in transport funding from EMCCA

Great news! Nottingham City Council has been awarded over £16million in funding from EMCCA to make improvements to transport and roads across our city. 


* More than £16m of external funding will be invested into Nottingham city’s transport network in 2025/26 thanks to the new East Midlands Combined County Authority [ [link removed] ]

* Nottingham City Council is expected to officially accept the funding at its Executive Board meeting on Tuesday 22 April.

* EMCCA, which has now taken over the role of directing the allocation of local transport funding, is providing funding for projects in Nottingham - including a 100% increase in the money available for road maintenance.
* This will be used to carry out resurfacing and preventative road maintenance to tackle potholes and improve safety, including on Porchester Road, Bestwood Park Drive, A6514 Valley Road and B6004 Arnold Road.

* Thanks to this funding: seven roads will be completely resurfaced, three part-resurfaced, 22 will have preventative work on the entire road and three will have preventative work on part of the road.

Apply now! £4.6m in grants available to support communities, skills and local businesses

Nottingham City Council has secured an additional *£4.6 million* through the extended *UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF)* – and local organisations are invited to *apply now* for funding.

The funding, provided by the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), will run until *March 2026* and is designed to support projects that help Nottingham thrive.

Funding is available to support:

✔️ Local community projects and employment support
✔️ Improvements to neighbourhoods and the city centre
✔️ Growth in tourism and the visitor economy
✔️ Support for Nottingham-based businesses and inward investment
✔️ Skills development, including digital and green skills

Garden Waste
Garden Waste Collections Have Begun

?? The first collections of the *garden waste service* are now taking place for residents who have already subscribed for the 2025 collection season. This year, *we've extended the service* to run fortnightly until mid-November, with a final collection in early December. Collection dates are provided upon sign-up.

?? A 2025 garden waste permit costs £36.50, with a 50% discount (£18.25) available for residents receiving Council Tax Support (please have your council tax number ready when applying to receive the discount). While you can join at any time, *the earlier you subscribe, the more collections you’ll receive* for the same price.

?? Garden waste should be placed in your *brown bin with a brown lid*. If you need additional bins or permits, these can be ordered online.

From *Saturday 5th April until Monday 21st April* the price will be:
